| AZT and Pregnant Women and ChildrenAZT is the main drug prescribed to reduce HIV transmission from mother to child. One study showed that this reduction was from 25% (placebo) to 8% (AZT). Other studies have showed widely varying results, and some have showed transmission as high as 25% with AZT. The long term health consequences of HIV transmission versus exposure to AZT are not known. However, these references show that there is room for concern.
