Positive Predictive Value (PPV) of TestsThe Positive Predictive Value (PPV) of a test is as important as its specificity and sensitivity. However, this value varies with the prevalence of the disease in a population. If a test is 99% specific, and 10% of a population being tested have the disease, there will be only 1 false positive for every 10 true positives. However, if only 1 out of 1,000 people have the disease, there will be 10 false positives for every true positive!
